Derek Gentile

Author of The Vanilla Envelope

Derek Gentile is the author of ten books, including The Vanilla Envelope, his only work of fiction. Among the others are The Complete Boston Red Sox, The Complete New York Yankees, The Complete Chicago Cubs, Chicago:Baseball In the City, The New York Yankees and the Meaning of Life and Smooth Moves: A History of Professional Basketball.

Gentile has lectured on baseball and basketball throughout the Northeast, including at both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame. His many contributions to local baseball research have earned him the title “The (Un) Official Baseball Historian of Berkshire County.”

Gentile is also an award-winning journalist for the Berkshire Eagle, and writes a Friday morning column for that paper. He lives in the Berkshires.
